Brief Introduction to China Social Sciences Press
China Social Sciences Press, founded in June of 1978 and sponsored by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, is a national publishing house focusing on the publications in social sciences and humanities. In 1993,it won the title of National Outstanding Publishing House granted by the Propaganda Department of CCP and The Press and Publications Administration of China. The Press consists of 5 editorial departments, a board of editors-in-chief and 6 other offices taking charge of human resources, co-operations, publishing, sales, advertising, and finance respectively. Among over two thirds of its 50 full-time editors, most of them have post-graduate degrees, have got senior professional certificate. The Press aims at publishing the best research in the fields of social sciences and humanities in China, including textbooks and reference books, as well as translated works by important authors of foreign countries, while catering to the needs of the reading public. Since its foundation, the Press have attracted first-class scholars and authors, and exchanged copyright with dozens of countries and regions in the world. The 8000 works it has published (with an annual output of 700 works) include key projects of the state and the CASS and the results of the best research in China, as well as authorized foreign works, such as The Cambridge History of China and New Cambridge Modern History. These works appealed greatly to the readers and built up reputation for the Press. The Press has published dozens of bestsellers and national and provincial prize-winning works since its foundation.
